MAKATI FC dominated the boys U14 division of SingaCup with a 1-0 win against Indonesia's FOSSBI Thursday at The Cage Sports Park in Singapore.
It was actually a double victory for Makati FC as its second team, composed of players one year younger, finished in third place after securing a 3-1 victory over fellow Filipino youth club Kaya FC.
โ€œIt is our intention to compete in this tournament and win inorder for our athletes to get the confidence for them to be prepared for tougher competitions. Good and constant expose of our athletes to competitive games all throughout the year is necessary to get them in tune with higher level of football,โ€ said Makati FC chief executive officer SeLu Lozano.
Jian Vinz Caraig took home the MVP honors, while Aarom Yekti, who produced the championship-clinching strike, was the boys U14 tournament top goalscorer with 18 goals.
Makati FC's first team reached the final by defeating fellow clubmates via a 3-0 scoreline in the semifinal.
Among the athletes competing in Makati FC are a good mix of players from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
โ€œMakati FC aims to identify talent from every province in the Philippines and give the opportunity to develop their game. Football and sports in general is such a powerful tool to alleviate poverty and give these kids access to countless opportunities through football,โ€ said Lozano.
The youth club's next tournament will be on Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in Thailand for the Bangkok 7s and was also invited once more in Indonesia on Dec. 13-15 to compete with the top international club teams from around Asia.
One of the primary objectives of Makati FC is to elevate the level of Philippine youth football. Founded by Tomas Lozano in 1976, Makati FC has been the longest running academy in the Philippines and has been in the forefront of giving the best program for youth development through football.PR
