IT was a relatively short workday for Filipino champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas at the “Battle of Brisbane” last Sunday after stopping challenger Teiru Kinoshita of Japan by technical knockout in the seventh round of their scheduled 12-rounder.

But the still IBF junior bantamweight titleholder said that had it went the full distance he was nonetheless ready.

Terence Crawford took to social media last Saturday night to complain bitterly about him not being allowed to fight Manny Pacquiao, and then the Filipino star losing to Australian Jeff Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) in Brisbane. Crawford didn’t say who wouldn’t let him fight Pacquio (59-7-2, 38 KOs), but it seemed to me like he might have been talking about his promoters.

Manny Pacquiao’s controversial defeat to Jeff Horn last Saturday night may prove poison for the future ratings for other big fights. The fight brought in a peak of 4.4 million viewers on free television on ESPN and ESPN Deportes with an average of 3.1 million viewers. Those were HUGE ratings for sure. It’s too bad this wasn’t PPV, because Pacquiao would have made considerably more than the $10 million that he received for the Horn fight.

There is a certain kind of boxer that matchmakers are wise to avoid when picking opponents for their fighters. He is usually a southpaw (though not always) and is defined as awkward (meaning that even if your guy beats him, he might not look great doing it). On top of that, this fighter is the kind of guy who is known and appreciated usually only by hardcore boxing heads, and will have trouble drawing much interest (or selling many tickets) to those outside the cognoscenti.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA -- Manny Pacquiao’s trainer advised the Filipino legend to quit boxing Monday after his sensational defeat to unheralded Australian Jeff Horn.

It looked to some that Pacquiao the opposite of a fair deal.

Dillian Whyte is not a happy person right now with Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder choosing to reject the $3 million offer from Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn for a fight between them. Whyte, #5 WBC, wants a crack at Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title. The unbeaten Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) would fight Whyte for the right amount of money, but the offer that was made by Hearn was $4 million too little.

Let me first preface by saying that I think the August 26th fight between Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and Conor ‘Notorious’ McGregor is a complete and utter farce. In a Boxing ring everything matters, and the nuanced differences between MMA and the Sweet Science (the heavier gloves, the twelve three minute rounds as opposed to 3/5 five minute rounds, even the footwear will all have an effect on Conor’s performance) mean that McGregor will likely enter the ring on the 26th August like a deer caught in a car’s headlights.

Andre “SOG” Ward says the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight will be decided on the size difference between the two fighters. Ward’s first instinct when predicting a winner in the fight is to look at the size difference.

Golovkin is far bigger than Canelo, who looks like he still belongs in the junior middleweight division. However, Ward notes that Canelo has good boxing skills, and he’s tricky inside the ring. Ward says the fight will come down to whether Canelo can handle the punching power of Triple G, as he’s a very powerful puncher.
