THE Commission of Higher Education (CHEd) praised the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) for a well-maintained bubble set-up during its ongoing Season 84 men's basketball tournament.

"I'm very confident that the UAAP, because as part of the team that put together the guidelines," is doing a very good job," said CHEd chairman Popoy De Vera during Saturday afternoon's media briefing at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

 University of the Philippines clinched a spot in the UAAP Season 84 Final Four after clipping De La Salle University, 72-69, Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Fighting Maroons bounced back from their upset loss to Adamson last Thursday to improve to 9-2 at second. The victory also assured the 12-0 Ateneo de Manila University a twice-to-beat incentive in the semis if it will not sweep the eliminations.

Adamson University's rolled to its fourth-straight win, topping the slumping University of Santo Tomas, 80-69, in the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament, Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Soaring Falcons grabbed solo fourth at 5-6 in the clogged race to the Final Four, with National University and Far Eastern University (both at 4-6) still to play games later this day.

De La Salle University needed Mark Nonoy's late spark to avoid disaster against University of the East in overtime, 85-82, in the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament, Thursday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Green Archers win brought them to 7-3, just a game behind second seed University of the Philippines with a matchup looming on Saturday, 4:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Red Warriors were eliminated at 0-10.

The Tamaraws snapped their three-game skid and were able to grab a piece of the fourth spot with the victory, tying the Bulldogs at 4-6.

Ateneo de Manila University claimed the first Final Four ticket after demolishing University of Santo Tomas by a UAAP record 50 points, 101-51, in the Season 84 men's basketball tournament, Thursday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

This 50-point crushing, the biggest margin since the computerization of stats in 2003, broke De La Salle University's 43-point win against the Growling Tigers as well, 99-56, on October 23, 2016.

Ahead by just a point after a Jake Figueroa layup on the other end, Soaring Falcons Keith Zaldivar and Joshua Yerro joined hands for five straight points, a triple and a layup, to give their side a six-point lead with 1:23 to go, 58-52.
