A confluence of factors has created a United States men’s basketball roster that will go into a major global tournament with Joe Harris, Derrick White, and a Plumlee taking up three of 12 spots. America’s stars dropped out of consideration for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China — tip off is Aug. 31, Team USA’s first game is Sept. 1 — and then a bunch of second- and third-tier candidates like De’Aaron Fox, Kyle Kuzma, and Marvin Bagley dropped out too. Kemba Walker and Donovan Mitchell will lead the way, and players on the level of Harris, White, and one of the Plumlees fill out the roster.

After absorbing its first-ever loss in the MPBL Lakan Season, the Makati Super Crunch got back on the winning track after repulsing the Cebu City Sharks, 73-67, Tuesday night at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

The Super Crunch found themselves on the brink of collapse but timely baskets from Jeckster Apinan and Joseph Sedurifa bailed out Makati, which improved its win-loss record to 5-1 and moved to third spot of the tough northern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.

San Juan Knights–Exile added another feather to its cap by winning the first-ever Community Basketball Association-Pilipinas National Championship.

The Knights brought down Bicol champion Naga Water Borne, 80-77, in their thrilling winner-take-all encounter to capture the title before an adoring crowd at the San Juan gym last Monday.
