IM Quizon muling nanalasa sa Kamatyas Chess tourney

Parañaque City---Sariwa pa sa kampeonato sa AQ Prime ASEAN Chess Championships kamakailan ay muling nanalasa si International Master Daniel Quizon matapos pagharian ang 7th Edition Kamatyas FIDE Rated Invitational Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed na tinampukang “Pawn Promotion” na ginanap sa SM Sucat, Parañaque nitong Sabado.


Naka kolekta si Quizon ng 8.5 points sa nine outings para manguna sa 1 day (Peb 25) event na inorganisa ni International Master Roderick Nava na pinaka sikat at pamosong pinoy chess blogger sa bansa sa partnership kay Mr.David Almirol, patron at utak ng Kamatyas Chess Club.
“We do this to promote chess at the grassroots level and discover new sports talents,” sabi ni IM Nava.
Naitala ni Quizon ang panalo kontra kina Allan Gabriel Hilario sa first round, Francis Talaboc sa second round, Richard Villaseran sa third round, Kevin Mirano sa fourth round, GM Darwin Laylo sa fifth round, NM Mark Jay Bacojo in the sixth round, IM Michael Concio Jr. sa eight round at Alfredo Rapanot sa ninth at final round.
Tabla siya kay IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia sa seventh round.
"I knew that this was a tough tournament. I just tried to play my best and now I am really happy," sabi ni Quizon na tinangap top prize P30,000 plus championship trophy sa kanyang efforts sa 157 player's field.
Bida din si IM Ronald Dableo na ipinagmamalaki ng Philippine Army chess team at head coach ng University of Santo Tomas chess team na nakamit ang second place honors na may 8.0 points.
Sina Concio at FM Randy Segarra ay kapwa nakaipon naman ng tig 7.5 points tungo sa third at fourth place ayon sa pagkakasunod.
Pasok sa top 10 na may tig 7.0 points ay sina fifth FM Christian Mark Daluz, sixth NM Christian Gian Karlo Arca, seventh NM/Atty. Bob Jones Liwagon, eight Rapanot, ninth Garcia at tenth Mark Gerald Reyes.
Sina Quizon, Dableo, Concio at Arca ay miyembro ng star-studded Dasmariñas Chess Academy na nasa gabay nina rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., mayor Jenny Barzaga at national coach FM Roel Abelgas.
Una dito ay nanguna sina Nava at Almirol sa ceremonial moves bilang hudyat ng pagbubukas ng one-day rapid tournament na pinasinayan din nina Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre, NCFP CEO GM Jayson Gonzales, NCFP director Martin Gaticales at TV actor Jao Mapa.
Samantala ay ipinagkaloob ng National Chess Federation of the Philippines nitong Sabado ang titulo na Honorary National Master (NM) kina Almirol at Twinkz Guerra Nava dahil sa kanilang invaluable contributions at pagmamahal sa Philippine Chess. -Marlon Bernardino-
