Globe Ambassador Eala now No. 4 in juniors world tennis rankings

Boosted by her sensational and historic run in the juniors doubles tournament of the 2020 Australian Open, Globe Ambassador and tennis prodigy Alex Eala is now ranked fourth, a career high, in juniors.

Eala teamed up with Indonesian Priska Nugroho to win the doubles title in the juniors event of the first grand slam event. The pair overwhelmed Ziva Falkner of Slovenia and Matilda Mutavdzic of the United Kingdom in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 to win the title.

The Eala-Nugroho tandem reached the finals after shocking the top seeded pair of Kamila Bartone of Latvia and Linda Fruhvirtova of Czech Republic in the semifinals.

The 14-yearl-old’s historic run and her strong performance in the singles’ competition gave Eala a total of 1,718.75 points to catapult her from a previous career-best 9th in the world last month to be among the top four best players of the world in the latest rankings.

Eala won her first two games in the juniors’ singles but fell to Yi Cody Wong of Hong Kong in the third round. Despite the loss, Eala posted her career-best in singles of a grand slam event.

With her new rankings, Eala is expected to be able to compete and see more action in high-level women’s tournaments in her bid to further improve her game.

Eala has been a Globe Ambassador since 2016. The company, however, has been supportive of her goals of bringing honor and fame to the country since she was eight years old.
