    World no. 2 Medvedev into 2022 Australian Open's 3rd round

    Russian second-seed Daniil Medvedev made his way to the third round in the 2022 Australian Open after eliminating his Australian opponent Nick Kyrgios 3-1 on Thursday.

    Medvedev, 25, won the game with sets of 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne to reach the next round, where he will take on Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.

    Ranked 57th in the world, van de Zandschulp made the third round as France's Richard Gasquet retired from their second round match.

    Medvedev was the 2021 Australian Open finalist. After the Australian Open, the Russian athlete won the US Open in Sept. 2021. (AA)
