Ten-year old chess whiz Hayden Angelo Capito ruled the elementary division of the North Private Schools Association of Caloocan (NPSAC) held recently at Robinson’s Novaliches on Thursday.
Capito, a Grade 5 student at the Young Achivers School of Caloocan (YASC) emerged as the only player with an unblemished record among the participants of the four divisions in the one-day tournament organized by NPSAC in cooperation wih Ricky Navalta of the Diwa Learning Systems Inc.after swept all five matches in this rapid event format, supervised by Alfred Miranda and Einstein Padua.
Adam Buenaobra of Escuela de Sophie of Caloocan Inc. (EDSI) placed second with four points, while Academy of St. Andrews of Caloocan bet Rein Nieto is at third with 3.5 points.
Harold Prince Montenegro of Mother of Divine Grace Academy (MODGA), meanwhile ruled the high school boys side with 4.5 points with John Ruzzel Selencio of Holy Rosary College Foundation and Jomari Gaton of Metropolitan Institute of Arts and Sciences, (MIAS) who had four points apiece, finished second and third, respectively.
In the girls side, Jang Lee Da of EDSCI had a superior tiebreak score to grab first place in the elementary girls, with Isha Elijah Malonda of YASC and Yshin Pablo of Henry Gusse Christian School Inc. (HGSCI) settling for second and third, respectively. All three had four points after five rounds.
In the high school girls, Janelle Dingding of EDSCI (4.5) beat Grayshamillie David (4.5) of Immaculada Concepcion College (ICC) in a playoff to grab first place. David settled for second, while YASC’s Cristina Soroan placed third with four points.
All top ten players in each division received medals, while the top two medalists in the four divisions will represent Caloocan in the upcoming city meet.-Marlon Bernardino-
