13-time Philippine Open Champion Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. has been invited as the guest of honor of the Open Kitchen Rapid Chess Tournament dubbed as IM Joel Banawa Chess Cup (kiddies and juniors division) in memory of the late IM Rolly Martinez which start on Sunday (September 1) at the Open Kitchen, Rockwell Business Center-Sheridan, Highwayhills, Greenfields District in Mandaluyong City.

Antonio, the 2017 Italy World Seniors Vice-Champion, is expected to grace the simple opening ceremonies at 10:30am, ushering in hostilities of the tournament sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, supervised by arbiters from Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines, backed up by Open Kitchen, Phoenix Chess Academy, Three Knights Printing Services, ChiliJuan, Otsuka-Solar Philippines Inc. (Pocari Sweat), Core of Dreams, Mega C, Ripples Daily and PTV Sports.

Also on hand to grace the affair is Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) director who is scheduled to make the ceremonial moves with Antonio.

Other invited guest are Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) president Dr. Jenny Mayor, Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen, Ms. Emz Forrosuelo of Otsuka-Solar Philippines Inc. (Pocari Sweat) and Mr. Jerome Intac of ChiliJuan.

Mc Daniel "Danilo" Ebao of Three Knights Printing Services, who organized the chess tournament, said Antonio was the perfect choice as guest speaker. “Most of the young kids today look up to him as their idol,” Ebao said.

It can be recalled Antonio won the Open Kitchen tournament last August 5 followed by Senior's event of the IGB Dato’ Tan Chin Nam International Chess Open at the Cititel Mid Valley in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last August 18 and the 2nd Torrevillas Knights Cup Open Rapid chess tournament held at the Samar College in Catbalogan City, Samar last August 21.

The Quezon City based Antonio, 57, is schedule to represent the country in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) World Seniors Chess Championship to be held on November 11 to 24 in Bucharest, Romania.

Meanwhile, Angele Tenshi Biete, a grade 8 pupil of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School will defend his title in the kiddies 14-years-old and below division which offers top prize of P5,000 plus trophy, medal and a Brand New Leap Digital chess clock.

Leading the challenge in the kiddies 14-years-old and below division are Austin Klhoe and Niel Andreiu Ampaya of Mandaluyong City, Srihaan Poddar of International School Manila, Mar Aviel Carredo of Quezon City, Prince and Oshrie Jhames "OJ" Constantino Reyes of Dila-Dila Santa Rita, Pampanga, Bonjoure Fille Suyamin, Geraldine Mae Camarines and Janmyl Dilan Tisado of General Trias Cty, Cavite, Philip Gregory Pe, Karl Zachary Fajardo, Ivan and Jericho Cu of Xavier School, San Juan City, Alanice Nicole and Alfred Miranda Jr.of Paniqui, Tarlac, Vince Miguel Ventura of St. Paul College, Makati City, Davin Romualdez and Launce Ty of MGC New Life School, Clark and Kimberly Kwan of Theresian School of Cavite, Nathan Maligaya of Mayflower Academy of Las Piñas,Janlei Kian Rosaupan of San Beda College University, Tristan Carl and Carl Marx Rosaupan of EMS Signal Village Elemtary School, Joshua Emmanuel Ronulo, Christelle Ceana and Precious Gabrielle Alega of San Mateo, Rizal, Joellyn Alaysa Pineda of Olongapo City National High School, Jace Oliver Pineda Fortin of Old Cabalan Integrated School and Lexie Grace Hernandez of Holy Angel University, Ronell Jose D.G. Co of Ateneo de Manila Grade School, Mark Rengine Salinas of Taguig Science High school and Wayne Ruiz of Marie Margarette School of Sta.Rosa, Laguna.

University of Makati head coach Clark dela Torre will parade it's varsity players in the likes of Theresa Saquilayan, Louie Maurera, Chris Topher Maranan, Danielle Maegan Lopez, Joshua Francisco, Grace Layan, Joshua Abrera , Jaysen Neil Taparan, Angel Verza, Ariel Jereos, Nanette Caluste, Rean Pamisa and Ina Dela Cerna for the juniors division ages 15 to 20.

The other contenders Eder De Jesus of Rizal Technological University-Mandaluyong, Vladimir Gonzales and Mark Jhames Sallazar Marcellana of University of Perpetual Help System Binan Branch.

They will dispute the top purse of P5,000 plus trophy, medal and a Brand New Leap Digital chess clock up for grabs in the juniors division ages 15 to 20.

Registration fee for Kiddies and Juniors is P500 while on-site registration is P600.
