The ERJHS Alumni Sports Club will hold the “Learn & Play Chess” with International Master Idel Datu, FIDE Instructor Chiara Reina Lim-Datu and FIDE Arbiter Rudy Ibañez on Friday,  June 30 at the ERJHS along Mayon Ave., Quezon City.

The two-part activity will include a chess clinic for students from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m with Datu, also a certified FIDE trainer, sharing his knowledge by giving basic and advanced chess lessons.

A five-round Swiss system chess tournament for the participating students and to be supervised by NM Ibañez  will follow at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At stake in the event to be held in cooperation with the ERJHS, headed by Principal Gina L. Obierna, and the Philippine College of Advanced Arts and Technology, are trophies for the top three placers and medals for the fourth to 10th placers.

The Datu “Learn and Play Chess” program is a fitting follow-up to the recent “Isulong Mo with GM Eugene Torre and IM Angelo Young” chess activity also organized by the ERJHS Alumni Sports Club at ERJHS Audio-Visual Room.
More than 60 students and alumni participated in the event which started with a five-round qualifying tournament and ended with a 15-board simultaneous exhibition matches each by Torre and Young.
