The 2022 National Master Zulfikar Sali Inter-Cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship gets underway on January 22 to 23, 2022 in Zamboanga City.
According to tournament director Mr. Joselito Dormitorio, at stake in the 2-day team event is P200,000 with the champion team getting the lion’s share of P50,000, while the second, third fourth and fifth placers will receive P30,000, P20,000, P10,000 and P8,000, respectively.


The sixth up to 10th placers will also bring home cash prizes distributed as follows: 6th-P7,000; 7th-P6,000; 8th-P6,000; 9th-P4,000; and 10th-P3,000.
Special awards will also be given P1,000 each to the individual top performers, Kiddie/Junior (14 below), Lady , Senior (55 above) , Zamboanga City Team, Zamboanga MVP/Rising Star, Zamboanga Junior Top Scorer, Zamboanga Top Lady Scorer and Beat the Master - Non-titled Zamboanga players who win against titled players.
“We are so proud that National Master Zulfikar Sali have chosen Zamboanga City to host this prestigious event. I hope we could contribute to the grassroots development of this mental sport where Filipinos can excel,” said Mr. Dormitorio.
Expected to participate in the 9-round Swiss-system, Rapid 20 minutes + 10 seconds event backed up by AMIN (Anak Mindanao Partylist) and Zamboanga Sultans are the country’s leading grandmasters, international masters, FIDE masters, national masters and untitled players who will represent their respective cities and municipalities. Each participating team will be composed of a maximum of three players which must include one homegrown player with an average NCFP rating of 2022 and below.
Maximum of 3 teams from each city or municipality except for the host city. Zamboanga City & IATF guidelines will be implemented.-Marlon Bernardino-
