MANILA---Nagtala ng magkahiwalay na panalo sina Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna at Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda para magsalo sa liderato matapos ang seventh round ng 2021 Philippine National Women’s Chess Championship na ginanap sa PACE building sa Quezon City nitong Martes.
Ang top-seeded, 24-year-old Frayna ay ginapi si Woman National Master Marie Francois Magpili sa 36 moves ng King's Indian defense para mahawakan ang liderato sa pagkamada ng five points.
Si Frayna, isa sa top player ng Philippine Army Chess Team ay kasalo sa liderato si Fronda, ang 2019 titlist na namayani naman sa kapwa Woman International Master Bernadette Galas sa 62 moves ng Sicilian defense.
Nasa likod naman ng pace-setters ang may tig 4.5 points na sina Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego at Woman Fide Master Shania Mae Mendoza na nakatutok din sa champion’s prize worth P50,000 at seat sa Hanoi Southeast Asian Games sa Mayo sa susunod na taon.
Tabla si San Diego kontra kay Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy sa 66 moves ng Gruenfeld defense habang nakipaghatian ng puntos si Mendoza kontra kay Woman National Master Mariel Sadey Rinoa sa 36 moves ngFrench defense.
Subalit nabigo naman makasama sa liderato si Woman International Master Kylene Joy Mordido na natalo kay Woman National Master Lexie Grace Hernandez sa 56 moves ng London System Opening.
Si Mordido na hinuhulma maging country’s next Woman Grandmaster ay napako sa four points.
Samantala ay tabla naman si Woman National Master Ruelle "Tawing" Canino kontra kay Marian Calimbo sa 37 moves ng London System Opening, Jobava System.
Ang 13-year-old Canino ang naka upset kay Frayna sa opening round.
