Organization's Official Statement:

The FIDE rated 1st Philippine Hybrid Chess Club Championship reels off 12th March with chess clubs around the Philippines expected to participate.

This was announced by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines Assistant Executive Director Reden Cruz. Clubs are entitled to field two players rated below 2200. The tournament will be rated by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) since it will have a full time control of 60 minutes to finish with increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Games will be played on the Tornelo internet platform but will require PACC Arbiters to be present together with the player in a public place. Players can use a traditional chess board to think of their moves before inputting it into their laptops. “It is like normal chess tournaments with full time control but played over the internet by players with Arbiters present,” Reden explained. “Arbiters can watch all players by Zoom to ensure fair play,” he added.

Games will be streamed live on YouTube with video of player’s faces and running commentary. The event shall be featured in social media apps of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

The tournament will be a 5-round Swiss System scheduled 1 to 4 pm and 5 to 8 pm over the weekend. At stake are Certificates and a total of ₱4,000 in cash prizes sponsored by Mr. Walter Villadiego, WJ Villadiego Custom Broker thru Chess Center of Excellence in participation of City Sports and Youth Development Office, Olongapo City which expressed their support through provision of safe and conducive venue for participants.
