US-based Filipino Jasper Rom emerged as champion in the Open section of the recently concluded Kasparov 15th anniversary Rapid 2017 last October 31, 2017 in Singapore.

Rom halved the point with countryman Singapore based Pinoy Jomel Ortiz in the last round to finish undefeated with five points on four wins and two draws in the six-round ten minutes tournament.

The Maravril Enterprise Team B stole the limelight by winning the 2nd Chessmates Dos Por Dos Dalawahan 2000 Chess Team Tournament last October 22,2017 at the Alphaland Southgate Mall Magallanes, Makati City.

With Fide Master Christopher Castellano and Engineer Benjie Esquejo at the helm, Maravril chess team backed up by Capt. Melvin Duay won the title with 11 game points output in the event organized by New Jersey-based US master Arthur Macaspac.

Filipino Grandmaster Mark Paragua failed to win the coveted title but didn't go home empty handed when he received the $1,000 prize money by topping the Mixed Doubles category along with team mate US player Rachana Bhanuprasad.

The native Bulacan  GM Paragua tallied 4.5 points in the Open section while Bhanuprasad notch 5.5 points in the Under 1300 section of the 4th Annual Washington Chess Congress last October 6-9, 2017, at the Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, USA.
