Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) looks like he’s already in fighting shape for his May 6th fight against former 2-division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs), With a little over 1 month to go before the fight, Chavez Jr. already is looking very cut up like he’s ready to go. Chavez Jr. says he weighs 178 pounds now. This is just 13 ½ pounds over the 164 ½ lb. catch-weight limit for the weigh-in on May 5.

WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13 KOs) says he’s been sparring with welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs) and he’s very impressed with what he’s seeing from the 26-year-old fighter. Spence is getting ready for his fight against IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) on May 27, and it looks like he’s taking it very serious in training with the 5’11” Jermell, who is a little bit bigger than him.

#3 WBC David Lemieux (36-3, 32 KOs) weighed in at 159 pounds on Friday for his 12 round middleweight fight against #2 WBC Curtis Stevens (29-5, 21 KOs) for their fight this Saturday night at the Events Center at Turning Stone Resort & Casino. Stevens weighed in at 158.25 pounds. HBO Boxing After Dark [BAD] will be televising the Lemieiux-Stevens fight on their network.

Wladimir Klitschko badly wants to beat IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua next month to become a three-time world champion. According to Wladimir’s trainer Jonathon Banks, he’s obsessed with beating Joshua to become a world champion again. Banks sees the 41-year-old Klitschko as this era’s version of George Foreman.

For the boxing fans that don’t remember, Foreman retired from the sport for 10 years and then came back at age 39 and toiled away until winning a world title at age 45. Wladimir isn’t quite as old or as overweight as Foreman was, but his accomplishment will be somewhat similar.

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet Province -- Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez graced the boxing matches held as part of the celebration of the 36th Strawberry Festival in this mountain town Sunday.

The event, organized jointly by the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) and the municipal government led by Mayor Romeo K. Salda, was also the final box-offs for national boxers vying for a slot in the upcoming King's Cup in Thailand to be held April 3-9 in Bangkok.

Tony Bellew’s win over David Haye last Saturday night makes him an option for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s next title defense. Wilder’s promoter Lou Dibella says that they would consider fighting Bellew. WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is the fight that Wilder and Dibella really want most of all.

That would be a unification fight. Bellew would be another voluntary defense for Wilder, who has already have 5 of them since winning the WBC title two years ago in 2015. If the World Boxing Council lets Wilder take a 6th consecutive voluntary defense, then Bellew (29-2, 19 KOs) would be a possibility.

Daniel Jacobs still doesn’t seem to have fully digested his loss to Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) last Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) says he watched the fight his fight with Golovkin 3 to 4 times, and he still believes he should have been given the victory. What’s interesting is that Jacobs believes that part of the reason why he lost the fight to Golovkin was because of the huge interest in the boxing world in the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Golovkin fight, which could take place in September.

This Saturday night, Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade (23-0) travels to Germany to challenge Jack Culcay (22-1), for the WBA world super-welterweight championship, live on Sky Sports 2HD in the UK. The former undefeated WBO champion, at the same weight, looks to regain some momentum in his career after fighting only three times since winning that belt in November 2013. Last week Demetrius took some time to talk with me over the phone about Saturday’s fight and what happened after he became world champion when he was forced to relinquish the gold.
