The 31-year-old Martinez appeared to do more than enough to get the victory tonight.

Jeff Mayweather is picking Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) to beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) in their big fight on September 16. Jeff says that Danny Jacobs created the blueprint in how to beat Golovkin in their fight last March, and all Canelo needs to do is follow that blueprint in order to be successful against him.

Golden Boy Promotions really did a good job of picking out Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s last opponent Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to fight their star fighter last Saturday night, but they also picked out a guy that was BADLY overweight and much too heavy to melt off the pounds to get down to the strict 164 ½ pound catchweight for their fight on May 6. Chavez Jr. says he ate very little in the last 2 weeks before the Canelo fight so that he could get down to the 164.5 pound catchweight.

British promoter Eddie Hearn is waiting for Wladimir Klitschko to let him know if he plans on taking the rematch with his fighter Anthony Joshua for another mega-fight before the end of the year. The 41-year-old Wladimir is enjoying himself on a 2 week vacation following his 11th round knockout loss to Joshua last month on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

THE GILAS Pilipinas men’s basketball team begins another international quest with the start today of the 2017 Southeast Asian Basketball Men’s Championship at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

A week-long event happening till May 18, Gilas’ mission order is to win the tournament to be able to represent the Southeast Asia subzone at the FIBA Asia Cup in August in Beirut, Lebanon.

Tyson Fury is saying that IBF/WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has already set aside April 2018 for a fight between the two giant heavyweights next year. The only things that needs to happen before that fight can materialize is for Fury to get his boxing license boxing with the BBBofC and he needs to be cleared with the UK Anti-Doping people.

Fury had a meeting with UKAD on Monday to see if he can get clearance to fight. He’s still waiting for the results of that hearing. UKAD will likely make an announcement soon. It would be bad news for Fury’s career if they rule against him.

Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KOs) lost to Canelo by a 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night in a one-sided affair from start to finish.

Golden Boy Promotions head honcho Oscar De La Hoya is surprised and not happy to learn that the odds-makers have already installed Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) as the betting favorite to defeat his guy Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) for their fight on September 16. The Canelo vs. Golovkin fight, which De La Hoya has named “Bombs Away,” was just announced last Saturday night, and the bettors have the unbeaten Kazakhstan fighter as the favorite.
