De La Hoya sounded off on the subject last week when he tore into the Mayweather-McGregor fight in seeing it as little more than just a money grab due to Mayweather facing a novice in boxing. McGregor has never fought in a boxing ring, and he’ll be going into the Mayweather fight with no experience in the sport.

It was thought that the 36-year-old Cotto would be retiring from boxing at the end of the year after a possible rematch with Saul Canelo Alvarez, but new contract with Golden Boy changes that.

George Groves (26-3, 19 KOs) paid a heavy price in his recent 6th round knockout win over Fedor Chudinov (14-2, 10 KOs) in suffering a broken jaw in winning the WBA Super World super middleweight title last Saturday night on May 27 at Bramall Lane, in Sheffield, England. Groves and Chudinov were fighting on the undercard of the Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight card.

Errol Spence Jr. (22-0, 19 KOs) proved to be the real deal last Saturday night in Bramall Lane, UK by beating Kell Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) in 11 rounds by stoppage in front of 27,000 hostile fans. Spence became the IBF welterweight champion by beating ‘Special K’ in his hometown of Sheffield, England.

Going by what trainer Abel Sanchez is saying, Saul “Canelo Alvarez won’t be able to stand up to the fire power and extreme pressure Gennady “GGG’ Golovkin will be putting on him during their fight on September 16. This is how Sanchez sees the fight ending up. Unlike the fawning of some boxing fans about Canelo’s defensive skills, Sanchez sees defensive flaws in Canelo’s game that will make him easy to hit by Triple G and easy prey on September 16.

Former IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) says he’s going to punish unbeaten Andre “SOG” Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) on HBO PPV June 17, because he says that he doesn’t deserve to be the champion at being given a 12 round decision he didn’t do enough to earn in their previous fight on November 19 last year. Kovalev says Ward is walking around with his nose in the air, carrying himself like he’s a king rather than just a fighter that was given a gift decision by the 3 judges that worked the previous fight between them. Kovalev says he’s going to destroy War and end his boxing career.
