After a scare, it seems former featherweight champion Jose Aldo will still perform at UFC 237 just as planned. According to Combate’s report, Aldo was released from the hospital today after staying in since Wednesday with a case of a bacterial infection that originated from a small cut in his knee.

However, Combate reported again on Sunday that his treatment was a successful one and Nova Uniao’s head coach, Andre Pederneiras, stated that the infection should not hinder their preparations for the fight against Alexander Volkanovski.

Currently on a two-fight winning streak, Jose Aldo (28-4) knocked out Renato Moicano and Jeremy Stephens in his last couple of outings and hasn’t lost since a TKO defeat to reigning champion Max Holloway back in December 2017.

Volkanovski (19-1) has won 16 straight fights, including six inside the Octagon. The Australian is coming off the biggest win of his career, TKOing former title challenger Chad Mendes at UFC 232 back in December.

Aldo vs. Volkanovski is slated for the UFC 237 main card in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 11. The card will be headlined by astrawweight title fight between the champion, Rose Namajunas, and contender Jessica Andrade.
