The top of the UFC Prague billing just concluded with the promotion’s #6 ranked light heavyweight Thiago Santos drop the #4 ranked Jan Blachowicz in the third round, and finish him off with ground strikes. Santos is now 3-0 at 205-pounds, winning each of them by way of finish. The win for Santos also broke up a four-fight winning streak for Blachowicz.
Blachowicz started out defensively sharp, pressuring forward while seemingly expecting a blitz from Santos. The solid defense made it difficult for Santos to find openings. A couple of clean punches scored for Santos in the later part of the opening round, while Blachowicz landed a couple of low kicks. Blachowicz did attempt a takedown in the final minute, but Santos successfully kept the fight on the feet.
Santos stomped the front leg of Blachowicz to open up the second frame. A sticky kickboxing bout ensued. Blachowicz looked to work his kicks as Santos tried to explode into his punches. Neither man was really taking over the fight. It was like a body kick for Blachowicz would score but also a left hook from Santos would hit it’s mark.
Blachowicz moved forward aggressively in the opening moments of the third round, and Santos clipped him with a massive right hook to left hook combo that sent Blachowicz falling. Hammerfist and hammerfist dropped upon a hurt Blachowicz, and the referee stepped in to stop the beating.
