The person in charge of the UFC 229 main event is a familiar face.

The UFC 229 megafight between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov now has a referee and judges. The Nevada Athletic Commission held a meeting earlier today and handed out the assignments for the October 6th bout:

Referee: Herb Dean

Judges: Sal D’Amato, Derek Cleary, Junichiro Kamijo

The committee unanimously agreed on their choices for the headliner. According to MMA Fighting, Dean will receive $1900 to ref the bout, while each judge will receive $1600. The three other referees that the NAC considered for the bout were Jason Herzog, Dan Miragliotta, and Chris Tognoni.

Dean has been front and center in a lot of major UFC fights over the years, and is still considered one of the better referees in the game.

Cleary is working his 14th UFC event of 2018, and was one of the judges of Khabib’s UFC 223 win over Al Iaquinta where he claimed the lightweight title. In addition, he worked McGregor’s UFC 202 fight with Nate Diaz, and scored the fight for McGregor.

D’Amato also worked the Khabib/Iaquinta fight, and this will be his 16th UFC event of the year. Kamijo is working just his third event of 2018.
