UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov talks about a potential fight against two-division world champion Georges St-Pierre
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will likely be facing former champion Conor McGregor for his maiden title defense. But if there is another fight that greatly piques his interest, it would be against another two-division champion, Georges St-Pierre.
Speaking during a Q&A session prior to the UFC on FOX 30 event in Calgary over the weekend, “The Eagle” admitted that St-Pierre would give him a tough fight. At the same time, he remains assured that no other fighter would be able to deal him his first career loss.
“Georges is greatest competitor in the UFC of all time,” Nurmagomedov said (transcript via MMA Mania). “Even if we fight, I think it’s going to be a very tough matchup for me, and for him too. I never lose round in the UFC. I think I can give him very tough match. I know you guys love him, but when cage door close I have to smash my opponents.”
“In my mind I think nobody can beat me.”
St-Pierre last saw action at UFC 217 in November, where he defeated Michael Bisping to become the undisputed middleweight champion. He vacated the belt a few months later due to his ulcerative colitis condition, and has yet to decide on his return date.
