An update on Conor McGregor’s legal situation as he approaches his next court appearance.
Conor McGregor’s legal team has denied reports that the Irishman is close to agreeing a deal with prosecutors in New York in regards to his bus attack that took place prior to UFC 223 in April.
McGregor was charged with one count of felony mischief and three counts of misdemeanor assault after throwing a metal dolly through a window of a bus that was carrying several UFC fighters. The target of the attack, Khabib Nurmagomedov, was not injured, but other fighters were left with facial lacerations.
TMZ Sports reported that McGregor is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with prosecutors that could see the felony mischief charge reduced to a misdemeanor and keep him out of jail. However, it seems that report is now in question, as MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi shared a statement on Sunday provided by a spokesperson of McGregor’s attorney, Cozen O’Connor.
“There is no accuracy to recent tabloid reports speculating about a potential plea for Conor McGregor,” spokesperson Karen Kessler said. “We do not, and will not comment on any discussions we may or may not be having with the DA’s office.”
Although a deal has not yet been finalized, a court appearance that McGregor has scheduled for next week (July 26th) in New York means we could soon know a verdict for his case.
Depending on how the deal unfolds, we could also know whether or not we will see McGregor back in the Octagon this year. Talks of a blockbuster fight against the current UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov have been ongoing for a while, but McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has recently stated we will see McGregor vs. Khabib by the end of the year. We shall soon see.
