“Super” Sage could soon be headed for free agency.

Sage Northcutt is riding a three-fight winning streak after rallying to knock out Zak Ottow in the UFC Boise co-main event. “Super” Sage has been promoted and paid as if he’s set to become one of the UFC’s next mega-stars, but now the next question for Northcutt is whether or not he’ll sign a new UFC contract.

“[Last week’s Zak Ottow fight] was his last fight,” Urijah Faber said to ESPN, “and I really hope they re-sign him. He is the perfect ambassador for the sport.”

Northcutt (11-2) has a UFC record of 6-2 and has been on the main card five times, including co-main event slots against Ottow and Mickey Gall. His last reported payout was $120,000 ($60,000 + $60,000 to win) for a decision victory vs. Michel Quinones at UFC Norfolk last November.

The UFC does have an exclusive negotiation period after contracts expire, and those usually last up to 90 days. So while Northcutt’s current deal is up, he’s not free to sign with other promotions just yet.

Given his popularity within the UFC, his youth, and his current winning streak, one would think that Northcutt will stay with the promotion he’s been with since 2015. If not, then Bellator MMA certainly has to be one of the favorites to snap him up.
