Colby Covington says he’ll be the one who gets to decide when and where he fights Tyron Woodley.
Newly-crowned UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington is the one calling the shots over official champ Tyron Woodley.
After beating Rafael dos Anjos to win the interim title at UFC 225, ‘Chaos’ believes he is the one who gets to dictate the terms for his inevitable title unification bout vs. ‘T-Wood’ later this year.
As a recent guest on BJPenn.com Radio, Covington said he would like to fight Woodley at the UFC’s upcoming event in New York, set to take place in November.
“The thing is, now I hold the cards,” Covington said. “So I’m not gonna rush back to fight when he wants to fight me. We’re gonna fight when I wanna fight, and I wanna fight in November. That’s a good time frame for me.”
Covington claims Woodley has ducked him at least ‘three or four times’ in the past, opting instead to gossip with the Kardashians and hang around with ‘liberal scum’ in Hollywood.
“I just fought fucking a month ago, I’m not gonna be fighting September, October” he continued. “I’ll be fighting in November. So, that’s what I’m looking at right now. I hold the cards. Tyron had his chance. We could have fought three or four times. They offered him three or four different cards in the past, and he cried, ‘Oh no! Ugh! I want a money fight! I want [Conor] McGregor. I’ll fight [Nate] Diaz.’ But then they offer him me and [he says] ‘Oh, I gotta get a shoulder surgery.’ So he’s came and gone. He’s on TMZ gossiping about the Kardashians. He’s in Hollywood with the liberal scum. He’s trying to do these B-list movie roles that go straight to DVD.”
“So, he could do all that little acting career, but he’s gonna fight me when I’m ready to fight, and that’s November. He doesn’t have the cards anymore, I hold the cards.”
Covington would tell all this to Woodley on social media, but the reigning welterweight champ has blocked him on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
“I’m pushing for Madison Square Garden,” Covington said. “So, make sure you tell Woodley, Madison Square Garden. I would tell him on social media, but he lives in his little safe space. He blocked me on all the social medias, on Instagram and Twitter, so I can’t get at him and tell him Madison Square Garden. He’s acting hard out there saying, ‘Oh, I’m gonna do this to Colby. I’m gonna do that.’ But that’s all talk, man. Why you blocking me?”
Woodley has been out of action for almost one year and is currently recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in his title defense vs. Demian Maia at UFC 214. The 36-year-old has promised to put the biggest beating on Covington when he eventually locks horns with his ex-teammate in the Octagon.
“I ain’t never in my life, I ain’t never in my career, I ain’t never in my existence as an adult human being wanted to f**k somebody up so bad, beat somebody so bad, embarrass somebody so bad, end his career so bad, take his life so bad — and I don’t even say that figuratively. Literally, I’m gonna try to hurt him so f**king bad they’re never gonna want to let me fight in the UFC again, that’s a fact.”
