The Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico was home to an explosive night of fights, with four (T)KOs, three submissions and five decisions, including three split-decisions. The undercard was packed with finishes, with five of the six bouts ending before the fifteen minute mark, and the main card was filled with razor-close fights, with half the bouts ending in a split-decision.
Performances of the Night: Niko Price, Humberto Bandeney, Dustin Ortiz and Joseph Morales
Joseph Morales closed out the Fight Pass prelims in dynamic fashion, dropping Roberto Sanchez twice in quick succession before applying a body triangle and snaking in a rear naked choke to get the first round submission and a $50,000 bonus to boot.
Dustin Ortiz absolutely exploded on Hector Sandoval in a “fight” that lasted all of fifteen seconds (the fastest in flyweight history). Ortiz came out with a huge right hand, then landed another one, then just kept landing them until the ref stepped in and mercifully ended it. Ortiz got himself a huge win and a huge $50K bonus check, as well.
Humberto Bandenay saw the Dustin Ortiz fight and thought, “What about that, but with kicks?” Then he went out there, kicked Martin Bravo a bit, then launched a high kick so hard and so high that his knee landed on Bravo’s chin, separating him from his consciousness, and separating Dana White from another 50 Gs in bonus money.
Niko Price came out to face Cristiano Ronaldo stunt-double Alan Jouban with one thing on his mind; violence. From the opening bell, Price backed “Brahma” up with a series of kicks and punches. It took just a minute for Price to land a clean right that staggered Jouban, and followed it with a head kick that dropped him. The referee jumped in the second Price started landing ground-and-pound in what looked like a potentially early stoppage. Then, Jouban wobbled to his feet and staggered around in a concussed daze and we realized he had it right after all. Price got an extra $50,000 for his efforts and a hell of a feather in his undefeated cap with the first round KO of Alan Jouban.
