Roger Gracie’s legendary jiu-jitsu career ended on a high note with a big submission win at Gracie Pro.

Roger Gracie is officially stepping away from jiu-jitsu, and the legend ended his mat career on a very high note. The 10-time IBJJF world champion showed up at a Gracie Pro event to meet the only other man to win the world championships as many times as him - Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida - and submitted him with a lapel choke at the 6:52 mark of the match.

The two men had met before, at a Metamoris event in 2012. They went to a 20-minute draw that time.

After the match, Gracie announced his retirement from the sport, preferring to concentrate on his MMA career.

“I told myself that if I fight good, that if I do really good here, that will be my career.”

The 35-year-old Gracie (6-2 MMA) is signed to One Championship where he serves as their current cruiserweight champion. He hasn’t competed in MMA since winning that belt in May 2016.

The third-degree black belt was never submitted in his entire competitive jiu-jitsu career.
