Heavy favorite Dillon Danis came up just short against Jake Shields at Submission Underground yesterday, and issued a statement on social media following the loss.

Dillon Danis has made a lot of waves in the grappling and MMA scenes with his brash talk, but he wasn’t quite able to back it up at Submission Underground 4 in Portland on Sunday. In the main event match of the show he was narrowly defeated by MMA stalwart Jake Shields, who won after three overtimes on escape time.

Danis didn’t take long to go to social media to issue a statement, where he gave Shields his props but lashed out at the people that relished in his loss.

“I show up to any rule set- Gi or No Gi and will take my losses like a man. Jake survived a 10 min onslaught of my submissions to beat me in the overtime round by 8 seconds for fastest escape, fair play to him he is a legend. I still believe in myself 100% and this will not define me. You will all swallow your words keep basking in a other mans struggles i'll remember everything.”

The 23-year-old Danis, a teammate of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, is a black belt under Marcelo Garcia, but his antics led Garcia to ask him to leave his gym recently. He also signed with Bellator MMA, boasting that he has the most lucrative contract in the company despite having no fights, and saying he would only fight at the Bellator NYC event if he was on the main PPV card.
