Jon Jones reacts to the slight controversy during Daniel Cormier’s weigh-ins on Friday morning.
During UFC 210’s official weigh-ins on Friday morning, Daniel Cormier stepped onto the scales twice. After initially tipping the scales at 206.2 pounds, he briefly stepped out and went back in two minutes later weighing in on the dot at the 205-pound mark.
Jon Jones, however, sees something off in this situation. During his media scrum on weigh-in day, “Bones” called out his rival for using the towel as leverage to shift his weight away from the scale. Jones also questioned the New York State Athletic Commission for allowing it to happen.
“The crazy thing is that it was allowed to happen. I would imagine there has to be some type of commission or something to go back and see this blatant foul play and address it,” Jones said. “Nobody addressed it. They just basically got away with one of the dirtiest things I’ve seen in sports.”
“That was absolutely nuts. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. I watched the guy. If you focus on his hands, you can see him looking down and like, balancing out his weight just right to make 205. What a clever trick. Very dishonest of him.”
Cormier is expecting Jones’ presence on fight night, but issued a threat that “something bad will happen” if the former champion decided to enter the cage after the bout. Jones, in turn, responded to DC’s threat.
“I heard about it, I haven’t seen it for myself,” Jones said. “I think he said something like if I came into the Octagon, it won’t be pretty, or something like that. I should just see what he meant by that. Maybe go in there.”
“But I don’t have any intentions on going in there, harassing the guy,” he continued. “I want him to enjoy his last moments with the belt.”
UFC 210 takes place on Saturday, April 8th at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
