Dana White feels almost obligated to make the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor match happen, for one specific reason.

In past interviews, UFC president Dana White has been vocal about his opposition on the much-hyped Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor boxing match. But at the same time, he never closed his doors on it.

Nowadays, he seems to be more inclined to the idea of allowing for it to happen. And according to the brash UFC executive, it is mainly a form of gratitude towards McGregor, whom he continues to give props to for stepping up to the plate whenever called upon.

“This kid steps up,” White said on FOX Sports’ “The Herd” on Wednesday. “He’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. A lot of people say it, very few really mean it.

“Conor McGregor, I call him the unicorn. I’ve never dealt with a kid like this. So for him to have this kind of opportunity, to make this kind of money, this type of a fight that people are so interested in worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it.”

Given that the fight would be under boxing rules, which heavily favors Mayweather, most fans are already ripping on the mere idea of the matchup. White, however, believes that it is a fight that people would still tune into.

“It’s a fight that people do want to see,” White said. “It’s intriguing and obviously it’s a fight that Conor wants because financially it’s going to be massive for him. McGregor, he’s a guy that I have a lot of respect for.”

Reports have claimed that the fight is being scheduled for mid-September in Las Vegas. McGregor’s camp recently revealed that they have focused their recent training sessions solely on boxing.
