Even if pundits and analysts are less sure, it sounds like Conor McGregor has plenty of support from his teammates when it comes to a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.

As McGregor’s star has grown in the UFC, it’s shown down on a few of his fellow teammates. Fighters like Paddy Holohan and Artem Lobov have found themselves in headlining slots (albeit Holohan through a number of injuries) and the UFC has regularly raided the gym for talent.

He doesn’t appear to be on his way to the UFC in the near future, but the latest fighter to soak up a little of that light has been BJJ standout, and McGregor training partner, Dillon Danis. A black belt under Marcelo Garcia, Danis made his name in the MMA sphere with repeated callouts of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. While a grappling match with Jones has yet to surface, the attention Danis has garnered (along with his superstar associations) picked him up a Bellator contract.

Danis recently appeared on the MMA Hour to talk about his recent Bellator signing and, of course, to talk about Conor McGregor. He gave his thoughts on McGregor’s continued push for a fight with Floyd Mayweather, throwing his full support behind the UFC champ (transcript via MMA Fighting).

“I just want to say, everyone is running [McGregor] down, but I think that he knocks [Mayweather] out,” Danis said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

...

“That’s a hard one,” Danis responded when pushed for a specific prediction. “I’ll say before the fifth. I think before the fifth. I think he knocks him out.”

Danis doesn’t yet have a debut booked in the Spike TV promotion, but got a callout from recent KO highlight-maker Steve Kozola, fresh off his win over Jake Roberts at Bellator 175. Danis reportedly isn’t looking to debut until the fall, whether or not Kozola is willing to wait that long remains to be seen.
