Roy Jones Jr. wants to fight Anderson Silva on McGregor vs. Mayweather card

Four-division boxing champ Roy Jones Jr. thinks a fight with Anderson Silva would be the perfect co-headliner for a Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather card.

Jones (65-9, 47 KO) is still active, and actually won the vacant WBF cruiserweight title last weekend with an 8th-round TKO stoppage of journeyman Bobby Gunn. Gunn hadn’t fought in over three years before getting the call to fight RJJ though, so it’s not like Jones is still out there taking out top-level guys.

Jones and Silva have been talking about a boxing match for years, but it was never taken very seriously due to Silva’s UFC contract. The same issues are holding up a potential McGregor vs. Mayweather fight, but with so much more money on the line, it seems more likely than before that something can be worked out.

Honestly, after the Silva we saw at UFC 208 (he beat Derek Brunson by controversial decision but didn’t look great at all doing it), a freak show fight with Jones might be something that fans could get behind him again for.

Maybe.
