Joe Rogan: Nick Diaz ‘passed’ on UFC rematch against Robbie Lawler

According to Joe Rogan, Nick Diaz turned down a rematch with Robbie Lawler.

UFC 209 happens this March. With the pay-per-view number coinciding with the area code for Stockton, California, fans have been clamoring for one, or both Diaz brothers to be on the card.

One of the match ups that have been tossed around was a rematch between Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler. According to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, that bout was proposed, but it didn’t come to fruition.

“They offered Nick Diaz Robbie Lawler, and Nick passed on it,” Rogan said on his JRE podcast. “That’s the word behind the scenes. Maybe I’m not supposed to say that.”

“I would like to see that fight. I would love to see that rematch. But I think Nick wants a f—king title fight. I think Nick is like, ‘Look, I want a big, big name, or a title fight.’”

Nick has resolved his issues with the NAC and is currently free to return to competition. Diaz knocked out Lawler back in 2004, and a rematch with the former champion seems to be the best way to get back in the title picture. If what Rogan says is accurate though, there isn’t a lot options out there that are bigger.

While UFC champs Tyron Woodley and Michael Bisping have both expressed interest in granting him a title shot, it may be a tough sell from a sporting perspective. Diaz has a massive fanbase and an entertaining style, but he hasn’t competed in almost 2 years, and hasn’t won a fight since 2011.
