The UFC may not be giving an official word on whether or not they’re closing down the 125 lb division yet, but they appear to be releasing almost every flyweight that loses in the Octagon.

“We’ll see what the future holds...” That’s about as definitive as Dana White is willing to get on the UFC’s flyweight division right now — as rumors continue to swirl that the promotion is closing down their lightest men’s weight class. And while those kinds of ominous statements leave a lot of potential wiggle room for future plans, the current reality is a lot more cut and dried. The UFC is cutting their flyweight roster. Brian Ortega’s injuries aren’t surprising to anyone who watched UFC 231, but he’ll probably be on the shelf for a while.

UFC 231 was a violent event. The latest of the promotion’s big shows took place in Toronto, and the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport has released the medical suspensions from it. Only two fighters were handed long terms, but one of them was the fighter that came up short in the biggest bout of the evening - Brian Ortega.

After Saturday night, UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway did not only defend his title for the second consecutive time, he also hit a few milestones in his career. He now holds the most number of active wins in the 145-pound division with a total of 15, and he is now tied for the most knockout and TKO wins in UFC featherweight history with a total of 8.

The UFC 231 PPV is in progress and Hakeem Dawodu just won a decisive decision over Kyle Bochniak, even if the judge’s called it a split. Dawodu used his crisp strikes and solid takedown defense to dictate the fight and out-land his opponent. Dawodu now enjoys a two-fight winning streak.
