Steph Curry and Kevin Durant were brilliant, and the Warriors now control the series.
When the Golden State Warriors play well, they are virtually unbeatable. That was on full display during Sunday’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State made their first seven shots of the game, by getting to the rim at will.
It was a vintage performance. The team trusted each other endlessly, rotating on defense and moving without the ball on offense. Draymond Green was stellar defensively, and with his playmaking, while Klay Thompson was cutting beautifully and draining jumpers.
But it came down to the superstars. Stephen Curry set an NBA Finals record with nine three-pointers, en route to 33 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. Kevin Durant, who has struggled with efficiency as of late, was nothing short of hyper-efficient, notching 26 points on 10-14 shooting, to go along with 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
For the Cavs, LeBron James was spectacular as ever, with 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 13 assists. But the Warriors simply had too much for the Cavs to handle, and while it started with the stars, it was a total team effort.
The Warriors now have a strong 2-0 lead in the series. Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland.
