USADA strikes again, this time at another former UFC heavyweight champion.

Fabricio Werdum is the latest fighter to fall into the USADA trap. The former heavyweight champion was sanctioned by the United States Anti-Doping Association based on an out-of-competition test, according to a press release from the UFC:

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Fabricio Werdum of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on April 25, 2018.”

The 40-year-old Werdum (23-8-1, 11-5 UFC) last competed in March, when he was knocked out by Alexander Volkov. He held the UFC’s heavyweight title for a year and a half from 2014-2016, winning an interim strap at first by beating Mark Hunt, then unifying it with a big submission win over Cain Velasquez. He dropped the belt when he was stopped by Stipe Miocic.

Werdum had been heavily rumored to be part of the main event of the first UFC show in Moscow in September, where he would have met Alexei Oleinik. However, the promotion had not officially announced the bout, and it’s surely in jeopardy now with this popping up.
