The 12 member teams along with two guest ballclubs will comprise the first of three conferences the league will be held starting this April.

Mighty Bond and Dunkin' Donuts have expressed serious intentions to join the tournament that is going to employ FIBA rules.

"All 12 teams will participate in the 3x3 (tournament)," PBA Board vice chairman Bobby Rosales announced during the formal launching of the league's 45th season on Tuesday at the Conrad Hotel.

"These 14 teams will be divided into two groups of seven. There will be a total of 42 elimination games and 14 playoff games per conference."

Both the semifinals and finals will be a best-of-three series.

"We intend to put up a pot money which we still have to determine for the winning teams," Rosales added.

The games will be held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in between the scheduled doubleheader among teams scheduled to play for the day.

The tournament is open to everybody.

"There will be no age restrictions," according to Rosales, adding each team will be comprised of four to six players, while allowing two Fil-foreigners to suit up.

Commissioner Willie Marcial said the tournament will be a stand-alone meet similar to the PBA D-League as part of the PBA's commitment to lend a hand to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) where it stands as a major stakeholder.

"Importante ito hindi lang naman sa PBA pero para sa bansa natin," said Marcial.

The staging of the tournament is aligned with the program of the SBP since 3x3 basketball will make its debut in the coming Tokyo Olympics. PBA.PH
