EVEN after bagging the season’s first two championships in the Philippine Basketball Association, San Miguel Beeer is certainly not content.

In an attempt to even bolster their already formidable championship core, the Grandslam-seeking Beermen shipped seldom-used rookie big man Arnold Van Opstal to GlobalPort in exchange for fellow newbie gunner Von Pessumal.

The one-one-one swap of Gilas Cadets was finalized by both teams yesterday and was immediately approved by the Commissioner’s office.

Primarily, the 12-man group of Gilas Cadets, as per the approved agreement of the PBA and the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas, a permanent member of the training pool of the Nationals is not allowed to be traded for two years.

But in this instance, since the traded players are both members of the pool, the trade was given a thumbs up.

This move comes just days after San Miguel Beer celebrated its conquest of the recently concluded Commissioner’s Cup.

With Pessumal now in tow, the Beermen will have another shooter in their fray to further deepen their backcourt rotation.

For the Batang Pier, it finally has a project big man to fill in the hole in the middle.
