LEAGUE leader San Miguel Beer aims on holding on to the top spot as it faces a tough test in the continuing 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup.

The still unbeaten Beermen (5-0) are looking to inch a step closer to securing a berth in the quarterfinals but they are bound to face a stiff challenge from TNT KaTropa (5-2) in a much anticipated showdown at 7 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight.

Preceding that is an intriguing match-up between inconsistent squads Phoenix (3-5) and GlobalPort (2-5) at 4:15 p.m. to open the show.

Still flashing its aura of invincibility, the Philippine Cup champion continues to show the league who is boss. The Beermen have not yet lost.

The Beermen’s fine form was in full display when they rolled over Rain or Shine, 111-98, in their last assignment.

Now, a sixth straight win is on the minds of coach Leo Austria’s wards.

They should move closer to securing a spot in the top eight if they continue their winning ways against the Tropang Texters.

For TNT KaTropa, this game against San Miguel is about redemption as it suffered a notable setback the last time out.

The Tropang Texters saw their five-game winning streak snapped by Barangay Ginebra as they bowed to the Gin Kings, 89-107, the last time out.

What’s interesting is that both teams will be missing key players that are loaned to the National team for its SEABA preparations.

San Miguel will be sans superstar June Mar Fajardo while TNT KaTropa will miss a couple of players as Jayson Castro, Troy Rosario and rookie Roger Pogoy are all loaned to the national team.
