Though it will take time for him to make his debut in a Meralco jersey, Chris Lutz is elated with his new start.

Joining the Bolts on Monday after being dropped to the unrestricted free agent pool by San Miguel, the 31-year-old swingman is excited on the prospects of rebooting his professional career.

“I’m just happy and excited that Meralco wanted to sign me. Coming off my injury, I wasn’t sure what team will be interested in me. So I’m just excited to join Meralco,” he said.

Still nursing his ankle injury, Lutz has already appeared before the team on Tuesday, but is hopeful to see action as soon as the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

“Hopefully in a couple of months, I’ll be able to play. I think it’s safe to say that maybe, I’ll be cleared by the second conference,” he said.

Coach Norman Black admits that the team knew the risks of signing the former Smart Gilas campaigner, but the deal was just too tantalizing to sit out on as the Bolts management quickly acted on nabbing the 6-foot-3 guard.

However, he said that if things go Meralco’s way, Lutz will just be what the doctor ordered as he will definitely be a significant boost to the team’s young backcourt rotation.

“If you look at our team, I don’t really have a three, so with JD (Jared Dillinger) getting healthy and Lutz coming in, I think we’re starting to turn that weakness into a strength,” the mentor said.
