With a little over a month to go before his clash with Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman on July 20, Manny Pacquiao is looking absolutely shredded to the bone for their fight on Fox Sports pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao is motivated to train hard because Thurman is vowing to retire him.

Pacquiao is motivated to beat Thurman
The former eight division world champion Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) wants to thrash Thurman to make him pay for talking of wanting to retire him. This is a fight that Manny would be motivated for anyway, but Thurman’s bold talk has given him motivation to trainer harder than he has in years. Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach Justine Fortune says Pacquiao is angry, and he wants to beat Thurman.

Pacquiao, 40, is working hard for the fight with Thurman. The Filipino superstar wants to shut Thurman’s mouth after all the trash talking he’s been doing at the news conferences. Thurman has continually chattered about wanting to retire Manny, and he wants to be the guy that finishes his career. He’s spoken about Pacquiao’s short reach, saying that he’s got little “T-Rex arms” that is going to prevent him from landing his punches against him. Nevertheless, Pacquiao is said to be very angry.

Pacquiao’s strength coach expects Thurman to be on the move
“Yeah. They all do. They all do. Listen, Thurman can’t stay in the pocket with Manny, because he’s too fast, he’s too strong,” said Pacquiao’s coach Justine Fortune to Fighthub. “So logically, or fight-wise, if he wants to win this fight, he has to try to box him. We plan for both, so.”

Thurman never stays in the pocket in his fights, being that he doesn’t handle getting hit too well. ‘One Time’ Thurman doesn’t possess the punch resistance for him to stand right in front of his opponents to slug it out. What Thurman does instead is he comes forward and throws a single shot, and then looks to counter if his opponent throws something back at him. Thurman will then retreat to the outside to avoid getting hit. But if his opponent attempts to follow him, he’ll stop quickly and throw a left hook or right hand to catch them. Thurman mostly throws the left hook when he stops. He’s predictable in what he does, because he’s been fighting the same way since he turned pro in 2007.
Fortune: Pacquiao is angry
“Yeah, he [Thurman] said some pretty silly stuff. I don’t know why but it is what it is,” said Fortune. “Yeah, he pissed off Pacquiao. We like it though because he pissed off Manny, it’s better for us. I haven’t seen him this upset for a long time. So he’s not happy, he really wants to knock Thurman out. He said it a couple times. Great, that’s great for us. That’s what you want, because that sort of Pacquiao is the Pacquiao of old,” said Fortune.

Pacquiao will need fast feet for him to get to Thurman, because the Florida native is going to be using his “circle boxing” to keep from getting trapped into a fire fight.
