Forged after the Kings completed a sweep of the higher-seeded Alaska Aces in their quarterfinal pairing, the local pro league’s two popular teams try to outduel each other and take their respective title bids deeper.

The Beermen set a  franchise record streak of 11 wins.

SMB marksman Marcio Lassiter had only one make from beyond the arc but still wound up with 21 points and 9 rebounds and his buddy June Mar Fajardo finished with 21 points and 22 rebounds plus 4 assists and 3 blocks as the Beermen draw first blood in their best of seven seminals game at   Fajardo made crucial back-to-back baskets inside the final minute that allowed San Miguel to tie the game at 94.

The Gin Kings became the 7th team to advance in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup after scoring a 90-80 comeback victory over NLEX Sunday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Down by as much as 17 points in the first half, Ginebra had to use a big second-half push to beat the Road Warriors behind a season-high performance from LA Tenorio.

THE semifinals of the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup loom and powerhouse teams San Miguel Beer and TNT KaTropa clash in a projected blockbuster matchup.

Defending champion San Miguel is looking as dominant as ever, being armed with a nine-game winning streak and has only lost once all tournament long.

“It’s a good thing the semifinals are a best-of-seven. That will be a long series. That will give us a chance to make adjustments,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

Moments after a painful 120-73 defeat on Saturday night, head coach Norman Black didn’t hold back in his assessment of Meralco’s campaign in the Philippine Cup.

“We basically had no chance of winning this conference and we played like it,” he said after the Bolts absorbed their worst franchise defeat in the 47-point rout at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

THE solid form of the Star Hotshots in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup continued yesterday as they barged into the semifinals after completing a sweep of the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters in their best-of-three quarterfinals, 91-71.

Following up on their 114-83 rout of the Fuel Masters in the series opener last Saturday, the Hotshots earned the right to play in the final four of the season-opening Philipine Basketball Association (PBA) tournament where they will either face the Alaska Aces or Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.

Star dealt the Bolts an emphatic 47-point mugging, 120-74, Saturday, in the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Allein Maliksi had a hot-shooting night, firing five treys to lead the Hotshots with 25 points, all coming from the first three quarters, while Paul Lee and Jio Jalalon both chipped in 15 markers.

The play that officially marked the return of Splash brothers  Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle began in a most mundane way:  GlobalPort toyed with struggling Rain or Shine, 117-98, on Sunday.

The chemistry between their elite players is building game-by-game and it is likely they will soon hit full stride as we get closer to the quarterfinals .

Romeo had 20 points in the second quarter alone, which saw him shoot GlobalPort back into the game after they fell behind by 10 point, 21-31. His three-pointer with 5:11 left in the period put them ahead, 39-38, and it was a back-and-forth game from that point.

A STRONG finish pushed Mahindra to its third win as it walloped NLEX, 106-96, wrapping up its campaign on a positive note despite already being eliminated in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City last night.

Alex Mallari had a career game, scoring a career-high 30 points to go with 10 rebounds and just missing a triple-double by one assist to lift the Floodbuster as he continues to show his vast improvement.
