The Pelicans hope Davis can return for their regular season opener.

The Pelicans couldn’t escape the preseason without an injury to their franchise player. Anthony Davis suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain in the team’s loss to the Rockets in Beijing on Tuesday. He will miss 10-15 days, according to ESPN’s Marc Spears.

Davis played just seven minutes before suffering the injury, finishing with only two points on 1-for-5 shooting. The loss dropped the Pelicans to 1-3 in the preseason.

The Pelicans have two preseason games left before opening the regular season on Oct. 26 against the Nuggets. The early timeline for Davis’ injury would push against New Orleans’ regular season opener.

Davis has never played in more than 68 games in one season for the Pelicans. Last season he averaged 24.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in 61 games.

Houston swept New Orleans in two games in Beijing. Bobby Brown led the Rockets with 18 points on Wednesday, while James Harden added 14 points in 24 minutes.
