Golden State’s enforcer pulled no punches in his assessment of a deflating home loss.
The theme from last night’s postgame press conference was that the Golden State Warriors were especially disappointed they couldn’t knock off the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center. Perhaps that’s because they had already put a beating on the Grizz earlier this season in Tennessee, or because the Warriors finally had enough healthy bodies to resemble a legit NBA team.
The Warriors’ 110-102 loss came despite leader Draymond Green’s 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Coming into last night’s game, the Warriors were 8-1 all-time when Green tallied those numbers. His frustration after the game was explicitly palpable.
Green’s ominous reflection reminded me of Warriors teams of yesteryear, so bored by their own dominance that they would have extended lulls of lethargic play before flipping the switch and turning their opponents to ash.
Those days are gone, and won’t return until the Splash Bros are back. Now, Golden State is lurching through a predictable yet painful learning process that will teach the young guns to respect the game, and test Green’s patience.
