Warriors promote Aaron Miles to player development coach
Miles, 36, had coached Golden State’s G League affiliate for the last two seasons. He also was given coaching duties of the Warriors 2019 Summer League teams, which allowed him to work with 2019 draft picks Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall, and Alen Smailagic, in addition to second-year guard Jacob Evans III.
The promotion isn’t a huge surprise, given how high the organization appears to be on Miles. Letourneau chronicled the Warriors interest in Miles before the promotion was announced, in an article that’s definitely worth your time.
Miles has other connections to the Warriors, beyond these coaching opportunities. After going undrafted in 2005, Miles caught on with the Warriors for the 2005-06 season. He appeared in 19 games for the Warriors, scoring 16 points in 118 minutes.
Those were the only NBA minutes he would log, making him a true Warriors lifer!
Also making the move from Santa Cruz to San Francisco is Kent Lacob, son of Warriors co-chairman Joe Lacob. Kent had been serving as Santa Cruz’s general manager, but will be promoted to a currently undisclosed role with in Golden State’s front office. He’ll get to work with his brother, Kirk, who is the team’s assistant general manager.
Miles and Lacob will be replaced by Kris Weems and Ryan Atkinson, respectively, who were in assistant roles at their positions a year ago.
