The Golden State Warriors have acquired small forward Julian Washburn from the Memphis Grizzlies. Washburn is part of the trade that sent Andre Iguodala, as well as a future first-round draft pick to Memphis.
Golden State officially made the trade on Sunday, and announced the details in a press release.
While Washburn’s inclusion in the trade wasn’t reported earlier, it isn’t a new development. He was always part of the trade, even if that wasn’t revealed until today.
The addition of Washburn in the trade probably doesn’t say anything about the Warriors interest in him. League rules state that trades have to featuring incoming and outgoing pieces, meaning that the Warriors had to acquire something from the Grizzlies.
Washburn is as cheap of an option as Memphis could offer, since he is on a two-way contract.
A 27-year old, Washburn played in 17 games for the Grizzlies last year. It was his first year in the NBA. He also appeared in 38 G League games during the season, and averaged 11.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, while shooting 40.6% from three-point range.
It’s unclear if the Warriors intend to keep Washburn or release him.
UPDATE: The Warriors are reportedly planning to waive Washburn, who will return to the Grizzlies.
