The Rockets occupy the longest winning streak in the league with its fifth straight win on Sunday against the Celtics.
Houston took the lead early in Sunday’s contest and never relinquished it in a 115-104 win over Boston.
The Rockets started off hot while the Celtics started off flat and the team ran with the momentum.
Eric Gordon notched a career-high eight three-point makes on 12 attempts en route to 32 points, the most EG has scored in a game since late November.
Gordon was a solid complement to The Beard, who led the Rockets to a 22-point lead at halftime.
With the large lead, the Rockets faced a storming Celtics team eager to come back in the third quarter. However, the Rockets responded every time, keeping the 22-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was when the Celtics began to make their push.
Boston was able to cut the lead all the way down to just eight points in the fourth quarter thanks to the bench unit.
Jaylen Brown scored nine of his 15 points off the bench in the fourth quarter.
The Celtics did not shoot poorly from the field, outshooting the Rockets 48.1 percent to 47.5 percent, but where the team missed out was beyond the arc.
Boston made just eight of its 28 attempts from deep, while Houston knocked down 21 of their 51 attempts. The +39 for Houston from behind the three-point line made a huge difference in the game.
Boston could not dig itself out of the hole it had created for itself in the first half.
For the Celtics, Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 24 while Al Horford scored 19 on 7-8 shooting.
With the win, the Rockets inch closer towards the top of the Western Conference. As of this writing, the team sits just one game behind the Portland Trail Blazers for third place and just six games behind the Golden State Warriors at the top of the conference.
It may have taken 60+ games, but today’s game proves that the Rockets are clicking. Ever since the Foster-gate loss to the Lakers to open the post-ASG schedule, the Rockets have yet to lose.
The Rockets look to make it six straight as they fly north of the border to face the Toronto Raptors Tuesday night. Tipoff is at 7 PM CT.
