The Warriors put up a 49 point third quarter that left no doubt about the outcome.
The Golden State Warriors steamrolled the shorthanded San Antonio Spurs, 141-102.
Klay Thompson led the Dubs with 26 points and 6 assists, while Kevin Durant added 23 points and a team high 9 assists. Stephen Curry chipped in 19 points and 7 assists, and DeMarcus Cousinsput up 15 points and 2 blocks.
The Spurs were lacking their two heavy hitters, Lamarcus Aldridge and DeMar Derozan, so the final score must be taken with a grain of salt. You know what else gets some salt? BBQ chicken, and that’s what the Spurs defenders looked like against the champs in Oracle. The Warriors shot 57% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc.
First Half
There has been considerable consternation about Durant not speaking to the media for over a week, but thankfully his game spoke volumes early on against the Spurs. Durant came out on fire early, drilling his first six shots from the field.
Durant had 17 points by halftime, while Thompson chipped in 16 for the cause. Curry gave Dub Nation a minor scare in the second quarter when he stepped on a Spurs player’s shoe and his ankle buckled. Fortunately, the Unanimous One shook off the injury and added 9 points.
The Warriors limited the Spurs to 40% shooting and transformed a 53-50 level into a 66-52 advantage with a flurry of steals.
Second Half
The Warriors ripped off a monstrous shooting streak between the 2nd and 3rd quarters, burying the Spurs.
The champs got so hot, Curry’s magical shooting powers were transferred to Andre Iguodala for a split second.
The fourth quarter was complete garbage time as Warriors coach Steve Kerr pulled off the dogs on his former team. It was comforting to watch the champs take the game serious and not play with their food. The Warriors held the Spurs to 43% shooting. San Antonio shot 12-for-32 from beyond the arc and committed 18 turnovers. The Dubs finished with 50 fast break points, their highest total in 20 seasons.
