Thompson is in his eighth season with Golden State and already has won three NBA championships with the Warriors.

Klay Thompson isn’t expected to leave the Warriors anytime soon, despite his pending free agency this summer.

While the 28-year-old guard will be a target for many of the top teams in the NBA, the “expectation within and outside” the Warriors organization is Thompson will re-sign with Golden State.

Per The Athletic:

“While Thompson has indicated an interest in remaining a “Warrior for life,” his return cannot just be taken for granted. Still, the expectation within and outside the Warriors is that Klay isn’t leaving. This is why you don’t hear about any team besides the Lakers gearing up for the Summer of Klay.”

Thompson made it clear during the offseason he wants to be a “Warrior for life,” and it appears Golden State wants him back too.

“I’ve said it many times before: I would like to be a Warrior for life,” Thompson said in August (via The Mercury News). “Contract negotiations are way down the line. But I think we all have the same interest. I would love to be here for the rest of my career… I’m going to be a free agent in 2019. No. 1 on my list would obviously be to stay with the Warriors.”

Thompson, who is in his eighth season with Golden State and already has won three championships with the team, continues to play a big role for the Warriors. He’s averaging 21.6 points with 4.2 rebounds this season while shooting 45.1 percent from the field.
