The Spurs have not announced a timeline for his return.

Kawhi Leonard will miss the entire preseason, according to a release by the Spurs, as he continues rehabilitation for “right quadriceps tendinopathy.” That’s a fancy way of addressing tendinitis, which Leonard has experienced in his knee before. In 2013, he played through it for some of the season.

That’s not good news. The Spurs also said that a timeline for his return will be determined at “a later date.” With just three weeks until the season starts, that’s concerning, but it’s too soon for Spurs fans to panic.

Head coach Gregg Popovich spoke to the media about the injury on Saturday, indicating the injury stems from last year.

This is a separate injury from the one that kept Leonard out of the 2017 conference finals series against the Warriors, though, when he was infamously tripped up by the outstretched foot of Zaza Pachulia. He had no structural damage from that injury.
