The 2017 All-Star Game was originally scheduled to be held in Charlotte, but the NBA moved it to New Orleans after the state of North Carolina failed to repeal the HB2 legislation that strips anti-discrimination protection for LGBTQ people. It will take place on Feb. 19, with All-Star Saturday happening the night before and the Rising Stars Challenge taking place the night before then.
As usual, the weekend will have a long rollout of events that culminates in the game on Sunday night. TNT will broadcast the Rising Stars Challenge at 9 p.m. ET Friday, Feb. 17, the All-Star Saturday Night extravaganza culminating in the Slam Dunk Contest starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, and the All-Star Game itself at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19.
The league has formally announced all the participants in the weekend’s many events over the course of mid- to late-January. The All-Star starters were selected via a combination of fan vote, player selections, and a select media panel. Then, the league’s coaches selected the reserves for each conference. The participants in the Saturday night events and the Rising Stars Challenge were announced by the league itself.
